The existing home was made up of two simple lake cottages joined by an entryway. Although the house was sited on  a piece of property with 3 sides facing the lake, it did not take advantage of the beautiful views or the abundant natural light. We opened up the kitchen and raised the entry hall roof to allow more light in, and we updated it with new windows to make the house more energy efficient and comfortable, so that our client and her family could stay at their cottage all year round instead of just summers. Stylistically, we crowned the entry with an eyebrow window with a substantial overhang on brackets, and gave this simple cottage a little bit of Shingle style flair in a working class weekend getaway spot.
